Manchester United 2019 season

Manchester United vs Man city live stream

Manchester United’s 2018/19 season got off to the worst possible start. Under third-year manager Jose Mourinho United was characterised by drab, slow and unattractive football which earned the wrath of the United faithful.

Disastrous performances against the likes of Liverpool and other title rivals meant they were out of the Premier League title race by December.

Mourinho’s tenure also involved a lot of arguments with the players, including the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba and there was a general air of toxicity surrounding the United dressing room.

A 3-1 loss to Liverpool in December meant the end of Mourinho’s era, as he was sacked and replaced by club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United have a new manager

The Red Devils’ fortunes immediately changed, with United seemingly refreshed by the change in manager.

Solskjaer led his side on a remarkable undefeated run which saw them defeat the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea as they got their Premier League campaign back on track.

They fared pretty well in the FA Cup too, knocking out the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea before crashing out at the hands of Wolves in the quarterfinals.

However, a true test of Manchester United’s character came in the Champions League. Having conceded a 2-0 first leg lead to PSG, they had a mountain to climb in Paris.

In what was a historic night, the Red Devils overturned the deficit thanks to a late, controversial Marcus Rashford penalty to make history and knock PSG out of the competition.

In the process, they became the first team to ever overturn a 2-0 home deficit in the history of the Champions League.

However, United exited the Champions League soon after, falling at the hands of Lionel Messi and Barcelona.

A penalty shootout defeat to Derby County much earlier in the season means United will be without silverware for yet another season, much to the dismay of their fans.

With only a top-four spot to play for in the Premier League, the season will ultimately be deemed a failure by most United fans.

Manchester United continue their battle for a top-four spot when they visit the Goodison Park later tonight.

They then return to Old Trafford for two extremely tough fixtures. First, the Red Devils host Manchester City for the blockbuster Manchester derby after which they welcome Chelsea to the Theatre of Dreams.

United round off their campaign with two relatively easy fixtures against Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Solskjaer’s side has been eliminated from all other competitions and have only a league spot left to play for this season.

They were one of the most feared teams in Europe, now they are not even half of what they used to be. This further epitomises the impact that a great manager has on the team. Since Alex Pergerson, there has been a couple of changes in personnel already. From David Moyes to Louis Van Gaal. Both tried their utmost best to sustain the clubs values and maintain its reputation but despite their perseverance, both failed.

Now the keys are with the new manager, Jose Mourinho. He has a great track record and also experiences all around the world. He did manage to show some promise by taking Manchester United to the champions league final where they lost against a stellar Atletico Madrid. But it was certainly a step in the right direction. Moreover, he has also taken Manchester United in the champions league and beating the likes of Juventus despite being 1-0 down for 80 minutes. Shows he is a genuine tactical genius and can take this club back to where they belong that is the top of the league.

Manchester United face heavy competition from their arch-rivals such as Manchester CityLiverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal. They have made far greater progress in the last few years than the red devils. So they will look to bounce back and prove to the world that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

United have world cup winners at their repertoire

Having the world-cup winner Paul Pogba is a huge advantage as he is highly regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. There is also Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial at their repertoire. It doesn’t end them, as they have arguably the best goalkeeper to their ranks. David De Gea, the Spanish shot-stopper is simply being impeccable in the past 3 years by displaying world-class performances consistently. If Jose uses all his resources correctly, United can potentially be a force to watch out for.
