Star Inter Milan duo Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan will leave the Italian giants this summer.
Inter’s sporting director Beppe Marotta confirmed that both players do not feature in Inter’s plans for the future and will be offloaded at the earliest.
Mauro Icardi and Nainggolan to leave Inter Milan
The potential sale of Icardi does not come as a surprise. The Argentine striker has fallen out several times with the Inter board.
Last season, he was even stripped of his captaincy following which he refused to agree terms for a new contract.
Nainggolan, on the other hand, was one of Luciano Spalletti’s preferred players. However, he was plagued by injuries over the course of the season and failed to nail down a regular starting berth.
Marotta opens up about Inter’s future plans
Both players will now be allowed to leave the club in the summer as Inter look to revamp their squad in a bid to make them competitive again.
Sporting director Marotta, speaking to Sky Italia, confirmed the club’s decision to offload both stars:
“When building a project, you have to find the right profiles.
“We had the opportunity to speak to the players themselves, with full respect for their contractual situations, but explained the position of the club, which I think is the most important thing.
“Both players know full well they are not part of our plans. That doesn’t mean we doubt their talent or capabilities, as I consider them to be two excellent players.
“Talent can win you games, but the squad wins you the league, which is the main objective we are setting out for. They are not part of our project, with all due respect.”
Both players are expected to have a ton of suitors considering their talents. The likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and several other clubs have expressed their interest in Icardi in the past and it remains to be seen if they make a formal approach for the player.
Ultimately, it is set to be a busy few weeks at Inter.
