Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater’s season seems to be going from bad to worse. Having fallen out of favour at the club under Maurizio Sarri, the midfielder has now been charged with drink-driving.
Drinkwater reportedly crashed his luxurious Range Rover into a parked Skoda around midnight after leaving a party.
Arrested and released on bail
Drinkwater was arrested by later released on bail, with a hearing set for 13th May.
A statement released by the police read:
“A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink driving following an incident in Cheshire.
“Danny Drinkwater, of Bollington Lane, was arrested shortly after 12.30am on Monday 8 April following a one-vehicle collision on Ashley Road in Mere.
“He has been released on unconditional bail. He is set to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday 13 May.”
Drinkwater was with a lawyer Beth Mantel at the time of the incident. The two were treated for minor injuries before being released.
According to reports, the England midfielder and Mantel had just attended a charity ball at a location about 6 miles from Drinkwater’s house.
An unnamed source also spoke about the incident, revealing that the duo had been ‘partying like mad’.
“It was a really nasty crash. Danny had been seen having a great night at the bar. but it ended horribly. Pieces of the car he hit went flying.
“Danny’s been partying like mad recently. hopefully, this will be a wake-up call telling him to slow down,” the source added.
Chelsea career over?
Drinkwater’s actions are unlikely to adhere him to Chelsea fans. The Blues faithful already believe the midfielder should not be at the club, and this incident will only reaffirm their beliefs.
Drinkwater has not featured for Chelsea all season. He only briefly appeared in a cameo role in the Blues’ Community Shield match in August.
