Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed what he believes separates him from Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

Now, Ronaldo has weighed in on the matter, stating that the difference between Messi and himself is that the Portuguese has proven his credentials with many different clubs.

Ronaldo has won the Champions League with both Real Madrid and Manchester United, and by his own admission, finished as the top scorer on six consecutive occasions.

“The difference with Messi is that I played for several clubs and won the Champions League with different clubs. I was top scorer in the Champions League six seasons in a row.”

However, the former Manchester United star went on to admit that Messi is a great player. He also praised the Argentine’s will to improve, comparing it to his own.

“There aren’t many players who won five Champions League trophies, so this is why I feel that I can identify myself with this tournament. Messi is an excellent player who will be remembered not just for his Ballon d’Or wins, but also for having improved – like me – year after year.”

The Portuguese also explained that he is not motivated by money. Instead, he wants to earn his place in footballing history with his exploits on the pitch.

“I wake up every morning with the idea in my head of training with the objective of achieving something more, not just to earn money. Thank God, I don’t lack money, so what I want to earn is a place in the history of football.”

Ronaldo has won the Champions League a total of five times, while Messi is one behind with four trophies to his name.

Ultimately, that’s the only thing separating the two according to Ronaldo. It will be interesting to see how Messi responds to his compatriot’s claims.
