Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane could be in for a prolonged spell on the sidelines. Kane featured in Spurs’ 1-0 victory against Manchester City in the Champions League. However, he was forced off the field with an ankle injury late in the second half.
According to manager Mauricio Pochettino, the English striker could miss the remainder of the season.
“Yes. We need to check tomorrow but it looks the same, a similar issue. I’m very sad, very disappointed, and it’s going to be tough for the rest of the season.
“We hope it’s not a big issue but there’s not much time to recover. He’s twisted his ankle and we will see how he reacts in the next few hours.”
Kane appeared to injure his ankle following a coming together with City defender Fabian Delph. The striker pulled up in pain and had to be substituted. He could then be seen leaving the stadium in crutches as Spurs fans looked on in shock.
Kane has developed into one of the finest strikers on the planet. This season, he has scored 17 goals in the Premier League and 5 in the Champions League. His absence will be a huge blow to Spurs’ chances of making further progress in Europe.
Spurs, will, however, be buoyed by their 1-0 victory last night against one of the top sides in Europe.
Despite being under the cosh for major parts of the game, Pochettino’s men held firm and nicked a goal late on take home the spoils. It was South Korean Son Heung-min who got on the scoresheet and if Kane is indeed unavailable for the return leg at the Etihad, the onus will be on Son to lead the line for the Lilywhites.
