Jurgen Klopp confirms star player will miss Chelsea, Arsenal clashes due to injury

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that star goalkeeper Alisson Becker will remain on the sidelines for at least a few weeks.

Alisson suffered a calf injury during the Reds’ opening league game against West Ham. He hobbled off early in the first half and was replaced by new signing Adrian.

Liverpool keeper Alisson to miss at least a month of action

The injury initially ruled him out of the upcoming Super Cup tie against Chelsea. However, scans have shown that the injury is worse than initially feared and he is set to miss the next few weeks of action.

With Liverpool short on goalkeeping options, they are set to sign Andy Lonergan, who is currently a free agent.

Adrian will replace Alisson in the starting lineup for Liverpool’s next few games. Speaking about the Brazilian’s injury, Klopp said:

“Not too cool. It’s a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while. I don’t want to make now [an] exact prognosis on when he will be back but it will not be Wednesday for sure, so now then we have to see. It takes a while, it takes a couple of weeks for sure, and we have to see.
“I saw already like ‘six weeks’ and stuff like this, but he was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks.”
Liverpool have a tough few fixtures coming up. They first square off against Chelsea in the European Super Cup. They will follow that up with a trip to St. Mary’s to face Southampton and then host Arsenal at Anfield in a blockbuster Premier League clash.
The Reds will then travel to London to face Chelsea. Alisson is expected to be out for all of these fixtures although he should return early next month.
