Manchester United have received a major boost ahead of their Champions League clash against Barcelona, with Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez both returning to training.
United have been plagued by injuries the past few weeks. A major chunk of their first-team players have been struck down by various ailments. However, it now appears as though they are finally getting close to full fitness.
Rashford and Sanchez set for return
Rashford sat out of United’s defeat to Wolves this past weekend due to an injury. However, he has returned to training and could feature for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Barcelona.
The England forward trained alone though and not with the main team. It remains to be seen if he is fit enough to earn a spot in the starting XI.
Sanchez, meanwhile, has not featured for the side since March after pulling up with a knee injury. However, he too has returned to training and is in contention for a start.
Major concerns remain
United still have major concerns though, with the likes of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly still on the treatment table.
Matteo Darmian, who has been missing the past few weeks, is also close to a return and trained with the side in front of the media on Tuesday.
Youth prospects James Garner and Angel Gomes are in contention to make the squad considering the sheer number of first-team stars struggling to remain fit.
Barcelona look formidable
Barcelona, on the other hand, have a near fully fit squad to pick from. They will, however, be sweating on the availability of prodigiously talented Frenchman Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele was named in the squad to face United, but he is set to undergo a late fitness test.
United welcome Barcelona to Old Trafford for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Wednesday before heading to Spain for the return leg on the 17th.
