Manchester United superstar Alexis Sanchez has apologised to the club’s supporters after what’s been a disastrous season.
The Chilean arrived at Old Trafford amid much hype following a stunning campaign for Arsenal.
He was involved in the deal that sent Henrikh Mkhitaryan the other way. However, Sanchez has struggled ever since his arrival.
Sanchez has scored just 1 goal in 20 league appearances
Injuries have marred his United stint thus far. He has made just 20 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal.
His abject displays have meant he’s been linked with an exit from the club in the summer. However, it remains to be seen if clubs can match his whopping 400000 pounds per week wages.
If he is to remain at Old Trafford, he will need to win back the trust of the fans. He has already taken a step in that direction though with an apology to the supporters.
“The fans deserve an apology”
Sanchez took to Instagram to issue a heartfelt statement. He also addressed his own personal form and vowed to come back stronger.
“It was a very tough season…the fans are the ones who deserve an apology as they always support you no matter what happens.
“Personally, I didn’t perform as much as I was expecting because of unpredictable injuries.
“Press and people were speculating of things that were not even true. I was always a professional in all aspects.
“I apologise to the fans for not be able to achieve our goals. Nevertheless we are Manchester United! Players and Staff are questioning if we were doing the right thing and if we were giving our best for this football shirt.”
He also added that United’s performances do not reflect the stature of the club, vowing to take them back to their rightful place at the top of the Premier League.
The Red Devils ended the season in sixth place following a string of defeats late on. The task for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now massive as he seeks to rebuild the side ahead of next season.
Whether Sanchez is a part of that rebuild remains to be seen.
