Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac have both returned to training and are mentally ready to begin their season.
Ozil and Kolasinac were both involved in an attempted robbery earlier this summer. Soon after, another incident took place just outside the German’s house following which two men were arrested for public order offences.
For safety reasons, both Ozil and Kolasinac were left out of Arsenal’s squad for their trip to Newcastle last week.
Ozil, Kolasinac closing in on Arsenal return
However, Unai Emery has confirmed that they have returned to training and could be in contention to feature against Burnley.
Emery also confirmed that the duo have put the traumatic incidents behind them are ready to kickstart their season.
“100 per cent. We think their mentality is good and their focus is with us. My focus is to be positive and I want to help them to live with normality. They came back to train with us on Tuesday. We had it off but they came back to start training.
“Mesut didn’t train yesterday with illness but he trained today. They are both good options, I will take the decision if they can be with us on Saturday, we will wait for tomorrow.
“I am pleased they are back, of course. For us, for me first they are a person, then a player. We continued in our way with all the players. When they are training consistently, it is good news for us because they can help us.”
Gunners looking to build on opening day victory
Arsenal did not miss the services of Ozil or Kolasinac in their Premier League curtain-raiser against Newcastle. The Gunners rode on solid performances from the likes of Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to register a narrow 1-0 win.
However, they could be in for a much sterner test this weekend when they host Burnley. The Clarets like to sit deep and soak up the pressure, and the Gunners might need the creativity of Ozil and the directness of Kolasinac on the wing to break them down.
