Interestingly, like Messi, the player he has drawn comparisons with, Kubo joined the Barcelona academy aged just 9.
He was expected to have a bright future at the Camp Nou, however, he was sent back to Japan after it emerged that Barcelona were guilty of youth transfer breaches.
Kubo is currently with the Japanese national team in the Copa America and will certainly look to impress his new employers with stellar displays in Brazil.

Kubo joins Hazard, Jovic, Mendy and Militao at Madrid
Kubo is the latest player to join Madrid in what’s been a summer of renovation at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos completed the signings of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Ferland Mendy earlier this week. However, they are expected to remain active in the market as they look to bury the ghosts of the previous season.
As for Kubo, while he remains flattered by the comparisons with Messi, he feels he has his own style and does not want to be likened to any other player on the planet.
“There are several players like me. but I’m me, not some other player,” he had said earlier.
If he can impress with the Madrid B team, there is no telling what heights he could eventually reach.
