Romelu Lukaku scores four on Inter debut

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku got his Inter Milan career off to a flying start as he netted four times in a pre-season friendly against Virtus Bergamo.

Lukaku completed a £73m move from Manchester United to Inter earlier this summer and has kicked off his career in Italy in spectacular fashion.

The Belgian’s two seasons at United did not go according to plan as he was often criticised for his poor first touch and struggles against top sides.

After falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Lukaku stated that he wanted a new challenge.

He also expressed his desire to join the Serie A, claiming it’s always been a dream for him to play in Italy.

Lukaku was expected to join Juventus in a swap deal with Paulo Dybala. However, that move broke down and the Belgian instead moved to Milan after Inter agreed a £73m deal with the Red Devils.

He has taken to life in Italy like a fish to water, netting four times against a hapless Virtus Bergamo side in a pre-season friendly.

The Belgian was handed the No. 9 jersey and played his first game of the pre-season against the Serie D side.

Inter ran out 8-0 winners at the end, with Lukaku playing a starring role.

Rashford, Martial star in Lukaku absence

United, on the other hand, did not seem to miss his services at all as they thumped Chelsea 4-0 in their Premier League opener.

Marcus Rashford got on the scoresheet twice, while new signing Daniel James and Anthony Martial netted one apiece.

All in all, the move seems to have benefitted both parties. While Lukaku will receive regular playing time in Italy, United seem capable of playing much more free-flowing football without the Belgian in the side.

Inter will kick off their Serie A campaign against Lecce while Manchester United travel to Wolves for their next game.
