Athletic Bilbao attacker Inaki Williams has signed a new nine-year deal with the Spanish side and will remain with the club until 2028.
Williams was believed to be a top target for Manchester United this past summer. Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter, United were in the market for a striker on Deadline Day.
Moreover, with a move for Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala collapsing, United had reportedly set their sights on Williams, although no formal bid was launched.
Inaki scored 15 goals in 41 appearances for Bilbao last campaign and was one of their top performers over the course of the season.

Speaking to the club’s website after signing the new deal, Williams expressed his desire to keep working and help Bilbao reach new heights.
“I’m very happy. I’m proud to continue to be tied to this great club that has given me everything. I’ve always said that I’m where I want to be, I’m very happy in Bilbao. I’m very happy in Athletic Club and I just have to show it with work, effort and above all trying to help the team with goals”.
“The Club has always bet on me, it has given me everything, I feel it is my home. I only have words of gratitude. Obviously, I could only make this official renewal giving back to the Club that effort it has done for me.”
The nine-year contract handed to Williams is among the longest ever in Bilbao history, with only Denilson’s 10-year deal signed in 1998 surpassing it.
As for the 25-year-old, he will be keen to continue scoring goals for his side as Bilbao seek to finish in the European spots this coming season.
