Tottenham Hotspur are set to make some major moves in the coming transfer market, but one player who will not be joining the club is Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.
Spurs were reportedly interested in signing the player who spent this past season on loan at Everton.
However, it is believed that they have now dropped their pursuit of the player, according to Sky Sports.
Tottenham out of Andre Gomes race; West Ham to make their move
This will come as a major boost to West Ham, who are also keen on securing the Portuguese’s services. West Ham had a bid for Gomes rejected earlier this month and will reportedly come back with an improved offer in the near future.
Gomes has endured a turbulent time at the Camp Nou. After joining from Valencia in 2016 amid much hype and expectations, he failed to live up to the billing, making just a handful of appearances.
He was then loaned out to Everton this past season where he had a rather successful stint. Gomes made 27 league appearances for the Toffees, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
He played a major role in their eventual eighth-place finish, but will now return to Barcelona for the time being.
What’s next for Spurs and Pochettino?
As for Spurs, it looks like they will turn towards other targets. Mauricio Pochettino did not make a single signing in the 2018/19 season and will be looking to address that next season.
Spurs looked short on depth at crucial stages of the season, a major reasons why they failed to keep up their title charge and finished in fourth place at the end of the season.
However, they still have a Champions League final against Liverpool to look forward to as they attempt to end the season on a positive note.
