Arsenal manager Unai Emery has warned his players that some of them will have to leave the club in the summer.
This statement comes on the back of a shock second-half collapse against Chelsea in the Europa League final.
Arsenal entered the match against Chelsea as slight favourites but were absolutely thrashed on the night. The Gunners succumbed to a 4-1 defeat and looked short on quality and depth.
Arsenal set for major squad overhaul in the summer
A summer of rebuild awaits the Gunners but it remains to be seen if Emery will be given the funds to truly ring the changes.
However, what is certain is that some of the players will be shown the door. Aaron Ramsey has already signed with Juventus and it looks like a number of players will follow suit.
“Our idea is to continue to carry on and improve with the young players that have arrived. Maybe some players need to leave but it’s not the moment to speak about that.”
“We have the possibility for a lot of players to improve. We have young players getting the first experience of a final and I am positive for our future with young players getting better in our way.
“The next year we need the same idea, to add some new players, but it’s the same way as this year, to do one step more.”
What’s next for Unai Emery’s Arsenal side?
Emery also conceded that Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League might prevent some top stars from joining the club.
The Gunners have been linked with a number of world-class players, including the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Cengiz Under.
However, what they really need is a top-quality center-back it remains to be seen if Emery is keen on addressing that issue.
